The Dietitian is an integral part of the Nutrition Committee at St Michael’s Hospital. This Committee, including representatives from Nursing, Catering and Pharmacy, has implemented a number of initiatives to ensure that patients can maintain their nutritional status while in hospital. We strive to enhance patient care through research, audit and evaluation. The introduction of Protected Meal Times in June 2009, and the launch of the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool in October 2009, help to keep nutrition as a priority for patient care. We work with St Vincent’s University Hospital to ensure policies and procedures are uniform across the Healthcare Group.
The Dietitians are also involved in providing nutrition education to all relevant staff at St Michael’s, giving training sessions to doctors, nurses, student nurses, and pharmacists. We are a centre for the complementary training of student dietitians from Trinity College / DIT Kevin Street.
