Introduction
This friendly nurse led clinic is facilitated by two tissue viability nurse specialists. They provide a Monday to Friday appointment only clinic from 8:00am to 10:30am, however appointment times maybe arranged outside the specified clinic time frame. Referrals are accepted from the Emergency Department, GPs, public health nurses and local hospitals. Education is given to staff, patients and family members relating to the appropriate care of wounds. Tissue viability services are also provided at ward level, which includes pressure sore prevention, skin assessment, application of negative pressure and education at ward level to staff on these issues. The tissue viability nurse also provides services in the vascular clinic, overseeing wound management and application of compression therapy. Special care is also given to people with diabetes.
