Introduction

The Occupational Health Department was established to provide occupational health and safety advice and services to employees of St. Michael’s Hospital. The emphasis is on the protection of employees from possible adverse effects of the work in which they are engaged and to foster a healthy and safe work environment.

Occupational health aims to promote and maintain the physical, mental and social well being of employees. It focuses on the effects of work on health and health on work. The Occupational Health Service provides assessments of the fitness for employment of hospital employees and undertakes the screening of at risk staff for work-related illnesses.
Services provided include: Risk Management, Education and Training, Health Assessment, Health Surveillance, Immune Status Evaluation and Vaccination, Research and Audit.
